The most modern car of Germany
" Hansa 1500 " was called the beauty from Bremen, technically and particularly in the body picture a new sight! Against this first german construction after the war the OPELS Olympias, the Fords Taunus (embossment), the Mercedes 170 etc. looked like cars from the past. Borgward built the first automatic transmission, called " Hansamatic ". But this car was for the wealthy people. Borgward however thought of all: The postwar car came, - because of its wooden body - called the "Leukoplastbomber" LP specified 300, and the Goliath tricycles.

In June 1954: the first " Isabella " left the moving-belt. It was a construction, for which Dr. Borgward would actually have had to receive this title again. For the construction of the Hansa 1500, which he had practically executed alone, this title had been lent to him. Against the ridiculous "sardine cans" of present production, whose " technical designers " attach only different brand names in front, it was a really beauty!
Initial faults, inevitably with a new automobile, were soon recovered. Since today Isabella still has the best reputation. Cars from Bremen - cars of reputation!
This advertising slogan of Borgward applied to all cars from his factory, particularly however to the Isabella Coupe, a dream car in the fifties - perhaps until today?

I omitted all troubles of reconstruction, the overcoming of the years 1945-1948, in which Carl Borgward was interned by the Americans, otherwise the understanding would have been more difficult. It was as performance which can be defined uniquely, because other companies were intact and had therefore more chances from the outset. Example: Tempo in Harburg. Everywhere Borgward is in front with: in racing (Hansa 1500 R-S) in the building of diesel engines (Hansa 1800 D) etc.. Some world records are still unbroken. Mercedes and Porsche got a dangerous competition, which - like Borgward - had developed usual - not with millions, but with minimum expense.

Isabella, the Lloyd cars, the tricycles and above all successes in the building of trucks Borgward got ahead. Surely, he wasn't able to overcome OPEL in addition it would have required some restructuring, but on the other hand a clear distance existed to the others. While the Bavarian engine factories, which should play a so fatal role later, were briefly before the bankruptcy, Borgward celebrated the 500.000th car since the currency reform. Borgward began the building of marine engines, and even helicopters under the line of famous Dr. Heinrich Focke. Borgward was successfull in races and built front drive trucks before the others and follows thereby the trend of the time, Borgward improves the Isabella, Borgward..., Borgward...., Borgward...
